Church or cinema?
This was once a cinema just off Northallerton's High Street, but now it is the New Life Baptist Church.

The Lyric Cinema
Taken from the church green. One of the most important buildings in a teenager's life in the 1960s. It opened on the 28th October 1939. In the late 1960s it was split into a dual-use building with a bingo hall in the "stalls" while the cinema (with a new widescreen) continued in the "circle" upstairs. It was bought in 1997 for £250,000 and converted into New Life Baptist Church opening on Easter Saturday, 11th April 1998. It looks as though it is now undergoing another change.

Porch House, High Street
This interesting building stands across the road from the parish church and has origins in the late 16th century, but with many alterations and additions through the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The projecting wing to the left is of 1780, whilst the main building with its pantile roof was once thatched. Tradition has it that King Charles I stayed here on two occasions, in 1640 and 1647. The building is Grade II listed.

Viewed from the church. One of the oldest buildings in the Town, dating back to 1584. King Charles I stayed in Porch House in 1641 and he was held in the same building as a prisoner of the Parliamentary forces during the Civil War in 1647.
