A train operated by LNER is leaving the station, on a journey from London to Edinburgh. This is the route of the East Coast Main Line.

Looking towards Newcastle and Edinburgh from the north end of the Down through platform. Through the fence on the right is the access road to the station, which rises from Parkgate between the Up and Down lines and provides almost direct access to the station platforms. On the left, houses on Pensbury Street back onto the railway line.

Darlington (Bank Top) railway station, County Durham
Opened in this form in 1887 by the North Eastern Railway on its line from York to Newcastle, it largely replaced earlier stations on the site.
View south towards Croft Spa and York, also Dinsdale and Middlesbrough. The East Coast main line runs to the extreme left of the image, under the footbridge. Trains have to leave the main line to call at Darlington as there are no platforms on the through tracks.
