Dam at Spring Gardens
The dam was constructed, ('opened' 15 April 2005), to reduce the risk of flooding from the River Gaunless across whose flow it was built. Flood water is allowed to collect behind the dam - to the right in the photograph - to be released later at a controlled rate. A wetland nature reserve has been created as part of the project.
