This stream runs along the east side of the village. Esh Winning, like many Co Durham ex mining villages, is set in the middle of extensive countryside.

R C church, Esh Winning
This is the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Martyrs at Newhouse, on the eastern edge of the village. Built in 1871 in a traditional Victorian Gothic style. Rather unusual for a Roman Catholic church in Co Durham in my experience.
