South Hetton railway station (site), County Durham
Opened sometime between 1837 and 1858 (early railway records can be murky!) on what became the North Eastern Railway's line from Sunderland to Stockton via Murton, this station closed in 1952.
View north along the track-bed towards Murton and Sunderland from somewhere near the ends of the platforms. The station was however in a cutting below the camera position, which has since been filled in and landscaped. The former Railway Hotel in the distance was standing but derelict when this image was taken. For further information and old photos, see http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/s/south_hetton/index.shtml
