St Aidan's Road looking west
This is the B1286, the main road through this former mining village. Fletcher Crescent on the right runs parallel to the main road on the north. It was probably built as council housing for the miners after WWII, or possibly a bit earlier.

Footpath beside the old railway, New Herrington
This path runs alongside the old track bed of the railway which served the local collieries. Pictured at its start beside the B1286 in the village centre, just before the aptly named Railway Terrace.

Bridge at New Herrington, near Sunderland
This bridge was built to carry a road over a railway. The railway served a nearby colliery. The colliery and railway have both closed. The route of the railway is now a path.
