Picktree Lane Drill Hall and Cottage
Army Cadet Force Centre. The Drill Hall was used by C Company, 8th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry and D Company Northern Cyclist Battalion prior to the Great War. A cottage was provided for the full time drill instructor usually an ex-regular drill sergeant.

Chester-le-Street Community Centre, Newcastle Road
A nearby information board explains that the centre was opened on 30 November 1929 as South Pelaw Colliery Miners' Welfare Hall. After the pit closed in 1964 "the hall became a community centre very well supported by local residents".
