The Lambton Worm
The giant earthwork sculpture of the Lambton Worm which lies beside the Consett and Sunderland railway path has been sadly neglected in recent years. It is just possible to make out the sinuous form of the sculpture, but in a few more years, it is likely that whole feature will have become nothing more than a bumpy nature reserve. Clearly there are still a few intrepid cyclists who ride the crest of the ridge and keep the path open - but for how much longer will this be possible? See Image for a view of the Worm in its heyday.

"The Lambton Worm"
The Consett and Sunderland Railway Path forms part of National Cycle Network route 7 and the famous C2C Cycle Route. A number of artworks have been established along the path. This sinuous earthwork is the "Lambton Worm", a famous character in the folklore of the North-East. In winter, the inside of the bends are liable to fill up with water.
