The giant earthwork sculpture of the Lambton Worm which lies beside the Consett and Sunderland railway path has been sadly neglected in recent years. It is just possible to make out the sinuous form of the sculpture, but in a few more years, it is likely that whole feature will have become nothing more than a bumpy nature reserve. See Image for a view of the Worm in its heyday.
