The River Wear, looking across to the University sports ground
Just to the right of the "pagoda" shaped structure on the far bank, there is a sculpture of, what I think is an ox. Its significance in this place is a mystery to me. See Image

Bevin Boys, Durham Miners' Gala
Bevin Boys were young British men conscripted who worked in the coal mines of the United Kingdom, from December 1943 until 1948. Chosen at random from conscripts but also including volunteers, nearly 48,000 Bevin Boys performed vital but largely unrecognised service in the mines, many not being released until years after the war. 10% of all conscripts 18-25 were picked for this service.

Rugby match, Durham, 1968
A gloomy day on the rugby pitch. The further posts are in Image; the River Wear is just behind the trees beyond. On the left of the pitch, serving as a grandstand, is the embankment of the former North Eastern Railway from Elvet station which after entering the trees, crossed the river; the line closed in 1954. The camera position is now occupied by Parsons Field Court, university student accommodation. However, the rugby pitch, down on the flood plain, remains.
