Sanquhar Post Office

Sanquhar: the post office
Sanquhar's post office is reckoned to be the oldest in the world, in terms of continuous presence in the same premises. It has been here since 1712. The counter date-stamp used at the office is specially inscribed: SANQUHAR "1712" DUMFRIESSHIRE

Sanquhar: postbox № DG4 150
This replica Victorian postbox, of the 'Penfold' design, stands inside Image, and is emptied finally at 5pm on weekdays and at noon on Saturdays - i.e. half an hour before the office closes. The plaque below the information plate reads: Royal Mail is proud to present this replica Victorian pillar box to the town of Sanquhar to commemorate the refurbishment of the post office.
