Drinking fountain in Langholm town centre
A pink granite drinking fountain set into a corner of the town hall building in High Street, with an inscribed granite stone above. Presented by the London Eskdale Society in 1896. The inscription on the stone above reads: WILLIAM JULIUS MICKLE POET BORN AT LANGHOLM 29TH SEPTEMBER 1734 DIED AT FORREST HILL, NEAR OXFORD 1788. TRANSLATOR OF "THE LUSIAD" AUTHOR OF "CUMNOR HALL" AND "THERE'S NAE LUCK ABOOT THE HOOSE".

Old Wayside Cross in Langholm
Langholm Mercat Cross, the old head, shaft and base of a central cross. Set in front of the library on Parliament Square in Langholm. The cross stood in front of the Town Hall at NY36468450 from 1723 until about 1848. It was reassembled and erected at Green Bank House NY363847, then moved to its present location in 1968. A doorway by Thomas Telford
This doorway at the northwest end of the Whitecroft Hotel in Langholm was made as an apprentice-piece by Thomas Telford during his training as a stonemason. The famous civil engineer was born at Glendinning near Langholm in 1757.

An interesting corner of Langholm
There are three items of note in this area off the High Street in front of Langholm Library. On the left is the site of the Mercat Cross; centre right is a statue to Admiral Sir Pulteney Malcolm, G.C.B, G.C.M.G., born February 21st 1768 at Douglen near Langholm and died July 20th 1838; and on the right is a doorway Image] made by the famous civil engineer Thomas Telford when working as an apprentice mason at Langholm. Telford was born at Glendinning near Langholm in 1757.
