Ritz Bingo, South Street
A classic example of a 1930s cinema, in Art Deco style. Designed by R G W Cooper of Nottingham, a noted cinema architect, and taking inspiration from Odeon cinemas of the period with the tall fin, it opened in 1939. Mainly brick, but the frontage is, typically of the period, finished in ceramic tiles and mouldings http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5483592 . It became a bingo hall in 1968, but retains most of its original interior decoration, and is Listed Grade II. At some point in the 1980s the then owner proposed to remove the top of the fin from this building as it was "of no architectural interest". This was before the building was Listed, but fortunately the planning application for this was dismissed.

This one,on South Street, opened in July 2013 in this old shop premises which had previously been a photographers and a juice bar. It acts as the brewery tap for the local Muirhouse Brewery but also sells other ales.
