Park Avenue on the left (2 mins away from Park Cemetery) is seen here joining Park Road with the single storey "Sudbury Memorial Homes" (almshouse) at the junction. These were built in 1910 as a memorial to Francis Sudbury Jnr., who was born in Ilkeston in 1842 and elected Ilkeston's first Mayor in 1887. Francis Sudbury Snr. was a hosiery and glove manufacturer.

This picture was taken from Park Avenue, whereas the road running to the right and left of the cemetery is Park Crescent. This is the main entrance to Park Cemetery. The first burial took place here in the 1892 although the cemetery's Grade II-listed twin-chapel complex with its tower was not built until 1910.

Although the cemetery opened in 1891, the chapel and gates were not built until 1910. Originally the central gates would have been cast iron to match those in the pedestrian gateways http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5485564 . Listed Grade II for group value.

War Memorial, Park Cemetery, Ilkeston
Supplementary to the town's main war memorial in the Market Place http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5483565 it is a standard design for the Royal War Graves Commission by Edward Maufe. Listed Grade II for group value.
