The plaque on the houses
The date on the plaque is 1904 so they were built before the first World War and so perhaps were meant to house Boer War veterans. An image by John Sutton shows a close up of the plaque.

Mickleover: date stone on North Avenue
The badge of the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment), dated 1904, on the first-floor front of a pair of houses on North Avenue. I wonder if the houses were built for veterans - perhaps of the Boer War. Further information would be welcome.

North Avenue or North Close
Not sure which is the correct name for the street as the submission map says avenue but the Maps page seems to say Close, though it isn't a closed road. The two houses in the middle have a plaque on the wall saying Sherwood Foresters and were built before World War 1 to house soldiers from that regiment. Thus this is one of the older parts of Mickleover.
