'New for Old'
The sad demise of what was once 'Horninglow Junior Mixed and Infants' School' Ultimately it became an infants' school which is now being replaced. Entrances in Horninglow Road and to the rear in Rowton Street.

Northfield Road, Horninglow, Burton upon Trent
Looking west.
Part of the Wyggestone housing estate built c 1928 for Burton Corporation but extensively modernised in the 1980's.
The lighter grey marking, on the footpath at the front of the picture, marks the spot where a gas lamp-standard one stood.

The Junction of Balfour Street with Horninglow Road, Burton - on - Trent
In the 1940s and 50's, the 'Queen's Supermarket' was Harrison's radio and television shop. Owners of battery operated radios used to take their battery accumulators there to have them re-charged.
When television came to the Midlands in 1949 ( Sutton Coldfield ), Mr. Harrison sold television sets which he displayed in the widow. For many people in Horninglow, this was their first view of television. A crowd would often gather to enjoy the novelty - especially at the weekends when the pubs closed!
The shop on the opposite corner was Eton's the butchers.
