The Beadle's House, Brechin
The site of no 19 and no 21, formed part of the Medieval Chanonry assigned to the Treasurer of the Cathedral Chapter for his manse. The two houses were built about 1758 by Alexander Stott, Burgess of Brechin. In 1888 the site and adjacent ground were acquired for the Cathedral congregation, and from 1904 to 1967 No 21 was occupied by a succession of Beadles.

Former Mechanics' Institute, Brechin
Mechanics' institutes were set up in the early 19th Century to provide social space, reading rooms and educational opportunities for workers as opposed to 'assembly rooms' for the 'gentry': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanics%27_institute . This fine example in Brechin is B-listed (LB22459 https://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB22459 ) and is now a community hall.

Brechin Mechanics' Institute
Brechin Mechanics' Institute opened in 1839, a symmetrical building in the Tudor Gothic style. It was funded by the first Lord Panmure to house schools for local children and to provide informal education for adults. Brechin Mechanics Institute
Completed in 1839, it was gifted to the town by the Dalhousie family and originally housed the Parish, Grammar and Burgh Schools and also provided an Institute for the education of the working men of the district.
