Tay Works, Dundee
These were jute spinning and carpet mills owned by G R & A Gilroy and built from 1851-1865. The tall pediment used to carry a statue of Minerva. The mills are now student accommodation. In the distance is the square brick chimney of Dudhope Works. This dates from 1837 and is the oldest free standing chimney in the City.

The L-shaped mill block in the centre is one of the earliest parts of the complex and dates from 1835-6. The more recent long blocks along Lochee Road are to the right. Old Mill is on Brown Street and the junction with Guthrie Street is in front of the photographer. The chimney seen just above the roof of the Old Mill is part of the same complex and dated 1851.
