Former mills, Brown street, Dundee
The closest single storey building is part of Dudhope Works and dates back to 1837. The car park in front is the site of a multi-storey turreted block of 1892 that has been demolished. Beyond it the chimney is part of Tay Works which was built for jute spinning and carpet weaving.

Tay Works, Dundee
Built for jute spinning and carpet weaving between 1851 and 1865 for A R & G Gilroy. The main block is now student accommodation. The brick and concrete structure to the right is, I believe, the 1922 dyeworks.

Dudhope Works, Dundee
This is part of Dudhope Works, there is more to the left on the opposite side of Douglas Street. The chimney was built in 1837 and is the oldest surviving free standing chimney in the city. It is connected by a flue under Douglas Street to a weaving shed of 1837. A new factory was built in the curve of Lochee Road (to the right of the chimney) in 1950.

Dudhope Works, Dundee
The chimney was built in 1837 and is the oldest free standing chimney in Dundee. It was connected by a flue under Douglas Street to the 1837 weaving shed seen on the left. More of the works adjoins the chimney and is built into the curve of Lochee Road. There was a multistorey turreted block between the weaving shed and Douglas Street but this is now a car park.

Long and perfectly proportioned neo-classical multi-storey blocks built in 1851-6 for jute spinning and carpet weaving. Now student accommodation.
The lower ranges nearer the camera are an 1837 weaving shed for Dudhope Works. It was a very dull and grey October Friday morning.

These were jute spinning and carpet mills owned by G R & A Gilroy and built from 1851-1865. The tall pediment used to carry a statue of Minerva. The mills are now student accommodation.
In the distance is the square brick chimney of Dudhope Works. This dates from 1837 and is the oldest free standing chimney in the City.
