The Statue of the Marquis of Montrose
James Graham the first Marquis of Montrose was born in 1612. The building is the Castle Stead on the site of the Castle of Montrose, which was destroyed by William Wallace in 1297. The reason being that it could then be no longer used by the English King to control the area.

Showing the spire of the Old Parish Church and the statue of Sir Robert Peel. The Old Parish Church; architect David Logan, was built in 1791 on the site of an earlier medieval structure dedicated to St John the Evangelist. The spire was added 1832-4. Architect James Gillespie Graham. The statue was erected in 1852.

Provost Mitchell Drinking Fountain by the Old Church, Montrose
Provost Mitchell's first spell of office in Montrose, Angus was between 1864 and 1869. The drinking fountain, in the town centre, which bears his name and the date 1869 relates to that time. As a youngster, I often drank from the chained cup but that was removed many years ago and the fountain is no longer in use.

The Statue of Sir Robert Peel
Situated at the south end of High Street, Montrose. Sir Robert Peel was the founder of the first police force in the United Kingdom. That is how the name Bobbies originated, they were also known as Peeler's.
