Housing on Barley Close
This block of flats is beside a road running parallel to the Gravesend to Dartford railway line (beyond the trees on the right).
Barley Close (on the left) is only used to access various block of housing (behind the viewer). The road leads forwards to Charles Street and then Crossways Boulevard (the A206).

St Mary's Road, Greenhithe
A very dull photograph, taken on the first of three visits to this site in an articulated lorry with a 45 foot long trailer, during the course of which I discovered two things. One, that St Mary's Road is only just wide enough to drive an artic down (and only then if no one has parked their car in the wrong place) and two, that there's nowhere at the end of it to turn an artic round. Once I'd unloaded, I had to reverse half a mile around a sharp S bend and past a row of parked cars. I was delivering the first of three loads of roof trusses to the Old Rectory, which is being converted from office space to flats. They're all delivered now, and I for one am glad I won't be coming here again!

Stone Crossing railway station level crossing
In 2008 it is extraordinary that this level crossing, at the foot of Church Hill, is still manned, particularly late on a Sunday afternoon. One wonders how often in a day the gates get opened to let vehicles cross! However the railway station has a direct service to London Bridge, scheduled at 44 minutes every half hour off-peak on weekdays.

As of September 2015 the crossing had been shut "following a number of near misses" with plans for a replacement footbridge, which was due to open in early 2018 Image
