River Shuttle, Bexley Wood, Kent
There seems to be a tradition in West Kent of dignifying even minor streams with a 'River' title - cf. the Quaggy River in Lewisham. This one, the Shuttle, flows into the Cray two miles further east from here, (we are looking east), and thence into the Thames.

The River Shuttle approaching Bexley Park Wood
A tributary of the River Cray, the River Shuttle is followed by the Shuttle Riverway which links the Green Chain Walk at Avery Hill Park with the London LOOP at Hall Place. The photograph looks downstream with the woods beyond the bridge.

Reflection in the River Shuttle
The River Shuttle usually flows fairly quickly but when this photograph was taken it was slow enough for reflections to be seen. This is just downriver of Crofton Avenue. The colours employed on the playground to the right do not really fit in with the rest of the scene.

River Shuttle from Crofton Avenue
A succession of open spaces have been preserved amongst the suburban housing alongside the River Shuttle. The Shuttle Riverway follows these. Its marker post can be seen on the other side of the river here.

River Shuttle near Crofton Avenue
Just downstream of Crofton Avenue, the Shuttle is now rather more attractive with shingle banks and bends in the river. The rather garish playground on the right contrasts rather violently with the natural quality of the river.
