Cygnet, Trent and Mersey Canal
Swans feed naturally on grassland; this cygnet is pecking at the grass at the side of the canal. There really is no need to feed bread to them.

Feeding Swans
In the wild, swans get their food from grassland; there is no need for anyone to feed bread to them. Here, a swan and cygnet can be seen feeding off the grass at the bank of the Trent and Mersey Canal at Barnton.

At the eastern end of Barnton Tunnel on the Trent and Mersey Canal is a bend where the canal opens up to a wide basin as far as Runcorn Road Bridge, No 201. That rebuilt bridge, which carries the widened A533 between Runcorn and Northwich, is shown in this image.
