Blue Cap Hotel, Sandiway
Blue Cap Hotel, A556, Chester Road, Sandiway. This building dates back to 1716, thought to stand on the foundations of an older inn called The Sandiway Head. It was renamed in honour of the foxhound Bluecap (depicted here atop the brewery sign in the foreground), famous for his speed and stamina, who lived at the nearby Cheshire Hunt kennels Image during the mid 18th century.

The A556 passing the Blue Cap
The dual carriageway reverts to a single one here, so there are predictable delays. The question arises why the pub is called the Blue Cap with a picture of a dog, but it was the named after a greyhound. The pub is part of the Chef & Brewer chain.
