Moored narrowboat near Audlem in Cheshire
The fifteen locks in the Audlem flight drop (or raise) the Shropshire Union Canal by 93 feet (28.4 metres) onto the Cheshire Plain. Here, above Lock No 12, on the non-towpath side of the canal, are some private long-term mooring positions. The water is still as evening gloom gathers. The longest narrowboats able to use the locks on most of the canal system are seventy feet (21·3 metres) long. This narrowboat, "Utrecht", built by Barry Hawkins Ltd (2013?) is of that length. Image]
