Ex-LNW 'Coal Engine' 2F 0-6-0 as Works Pilot at Crewe
One of the few survivors of an original 500 Webb 17" 2F 0-6-0 'Coal Engines', No. 28106 became BR No. 58326 and survived to be one of the last in 5/53. [See Image] regarding my uncertainty of precise locations in Crewe Works].

Ex-L&Y 0-6-0 as a Crewe Works Pilot
Aspinall 27 Class 3F 0-6-0 No. 52441 (built 1890s, withdrawn 9/62) was employed in its final years as one of the several Crewe Works Pilots. [N.B.: I need help, please, with the precise location of my several images taken at Crewe Works, because I don't have a contemporary large-scale plan of the Works complex?]

Crewe locomotive works
Two class 47 diesels and a class 74 electro-diesel outside Crewe works.
The class 74 (E6102) had just been rebuilt from a conventional electric loco, by the addition of a diesel-generator and push-pull controls. These locos were converted for the Waterloo - Bournemouth electrification scheme, and were intended for use on Southampton boat trains. The diesel engine enabled them to run on unelectified lines at reduced power. However, they only survived for about another 10 years.
I don't know the grid reference for this photo, or even whether this part of the works still survives.

Pacific locomotive after Winsford crash
View eastward at Crewe Works, LMSR: Stanier 'Coronation' 4-6-2 No. 6251 'City of Nottingham' awaits repair. It had been heading the Up West Coast Postal when it collided at 40+ mph with the rear of the 17.40 Glasgow to Euston express, which had been stopped in open country in the middle of the night after a soldier on Leave had pulled the communication cord to get home across the fields and the express had been wrongly reported 'out of section' by the Winsford signalman.

Terraced houses on Bridge Road facing the rear of former railway buildings of Crewe Electric Depot. The depot still exists though reduced in size and the buildings shown are no longer in railway use.

Resplendent 8F outside Paint Shop at Crewe Works
Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48345 (built early 1944, not withdrawn until 3/68) repainted after repair in 1958 - seems to be being admired. Behind it is 'Jubilee' 4-6-0 45685 'Barfleur'.

A resplendent 'Coronation' Pacific at Crewe Works after repair
Outside the Paint Shop, Stanier 'Princess Coronation' 4-6-2 No. 46224 'Princess Alexandra' has No. 46232 'Duchess of Montrose' behind. Both of these incomparable locomotives had 14 - 15 years of service ahead of them.
