Crewe war memorial
In 2006, amidst much controversy and tens of thousands of dissenting voices, Crewe war memorial was moved from the Market Square where it had stood since 1924, to the square in front of the Municipal Buildings. Britannia now faces the council offices rather than France, which is usual.

Crewe war memorial - contre jour
In 2006, despite tens of thousands of objections, Crewe war memorial was moved from its original position in Market Square, to the square in front of the Municipal Buildings. Now it faces the council offices rather than France, which is more usual. Here the low sun dramatically highlights Britannia's trident and her olive branch. Crewe war memorial - 'For the Fallen'
The fourth verse of Laurence Binyon's famous poem is set into the pavement in front of Crewe war memorial. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. 'For the Fallen' Laurence Binyon, 1914
