Across to Higher Whitemoor Farm from Whitemore Wood
Looking from the stile out of Whitemore Wood (Image) across the fields to Higher Whitemoor Wood. Note the two different spellings of the same names, presumably over the years one spelling has been adopted over another. There are two farms and a small group of houses that use Whitemoor and the wood plus a Local Nature Reserve that use Whitemore.

Definitely this way
At least all the arrows on the stile exiting Whitemore Wood are pointing in the same direction and agree with the worn path in the field. But we seem to have gained a third right of way since leaving Woodside Farm (Image). We are now following not only the Gritstone Trail and the Staffordshire Way but one of the Moorlands Walk routes too and yet no paths have joined this one in between, perhaps they ran out of arrows when they got to here.

Looking back up the path
Looking up the footpath that carries both the Gritstone Trail and the Staffordshire Way through Whitemore Wood. The wood covers the eastern flank of Congleton Edge and mainly consists of a mix of Silver Birch and Oak. Holly bushes, such as the ones on the left, are gaining a foothold in the more sheltered parts near the bottom edge.

Down between the Hollies
Although Whitemore Wood is dominated by a mix of Silver Birch and Oak, there are sheltered parts that are being taken over by Holly trees. The public footpath takes a route through them here in the bottom corner of the wood.

Contented beasts
Now that the snow had gone, these heifers were very happy just lying on the grass chewing the cud- all it lacked was some warm sunshine. The farm at the top of the field is Higher Whitemoor Farm.

Between the Birches
Whitemore Wood is predominately a mix of Silver Birches and Oaks, this section of the public footpath looks as if it has been hedged by Birches- especially on the left. The footpaths predate the roads by a long time, this one in particular was probably a quite important and well used one because the road in the valley bottom doesn't appear on any pre-20th century map.

I'm watching you
Walking quietly down the lane from Higher Whitemoor Farm I got the strangest feeling I was being watched, after quite a bit of searching around I suddenly spotted this cat sitting on a fence post and waiting for its next prey.
