Rookery Bridge Bone and Manure Works, Trent and Mersey Canal
Until recent times, the Trent and Mersey Canal was always fascinating for the large number of old industrial buildings to be seen. Most of them have now been cleared away, and this works was no exception: it was already derelict in 1981.

Hall Lane railway bridge, Elworth
Actually a pair of bridges, the nearer modern steel bridge carrying the fast lines between Manchester and Crewe, and the older brick arch beyond (with a height limit of 3.7m) carrying the freight lines between Middlewich and Crewe. The presence of a sharp bend just beyond necessitates traffic light control.

Grey Heron near Elworth, Cheshire
This fine specimen posed several times along a three hundred metre length of the Trent and Mersey Canal. The yellow flowers are ragwort, I think. It is a large bird, standing 90–100 cm tall, with a 175–195 cm wingspan and a weight of 1–2 kg. (from Wikipedia)
