The Lower Chequer, Sandbach
The pub gets its name by contrast with the Swan and Chequer, higher up the hill at the west end of the High Street. This was my father's "local" for many years. The pub is grade 2 listed (list entry 1130388); the listing describes it as "Late C16 or early C17 but much altered and restored and retaining few original features" with the half-timbering being a modern imitation rather than part of the original structure.

View from pub to church
The epitome of an English summer afternoon: sat in a pub beer garden, listening to the church bells being rung for a wedding. The pub is the Lower Chequer Image and the church St Mary's, Sandbach Image

Sandbach autumn fair (2)
The funfair comes at least twice a year to Sandbach, setting up on Scotch Common from Thursday to Monday. This year for the first time the rides were open on a Sunday. Also in the picture is an Arriva bus.
