Site of station, Station Road, Kenilworth
This parking area is where the station buildings formerly stood. Old photos of the building can be seen on the Warwickshire Railways website at http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/lnwrk2065.htm and the photographer is standing approximately where the booking hall once was, with the angle of the photo being very similar to http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/lnwrk2061.htm

The old station goods yard wall, Station Road, Kenilworth
Also see notes on Image] and Image] This was formerly the entrance to Kenilworth Station, and is presently the entrance to Lockhart Close, which is around the corner on the right on the site of the former station coal yard. The wall on the left dates from railway times - it was the boundary to the former goods yard. The building beyond the wall is relatively modern and belongs to the builders merchants who operate from the goods yard site. The fence on the left marks the position of a former entrance to the goods yard. Where the cars are in the background is the site of the former station building.

Looking towards the site of the station, Station Road, Kenilworth
Also see notes on photographs Image] and Image] This is the view across the Priory Road/ Waverley Road junction showing the end of Station Road which leads to the site of the former station. In the centre of the photo can be seen the gate piers of the entrance to the former goods yard, now a builders merchants. It is taken at a similar angle to the historic photo http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/lnwrk1469a.htm on the Warwickshire Railways website. This view is due to change again soon with the construction of a new station on this site.

A new railway station, and Oppenheimer's hat
The new Kenilworth railway station opened in April 2018. For over fifty years, this town of 20,000 people had had no station on the line that passed through it, the original having been closed in 1965. The new booking hall is modelled on its Victorian forerunner, but with much simpler detail. The forecourt bench in the shape of a pork pie hat or a flying saucer is a pleasing touch. See Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenilworth_railway_station , which cites the Warwickshire Railways site, which has good photos of the old station https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/kenilworth.htm .

Former railway goods shed, Station Road, Kenilworth
A view from Station Road just to the left of the view in Image] shows that the former railway stables survives in the builders merchants yard. An old view of the building seen from the opposite direction can be seen on the Warwickshire Railways website at http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/lnwrk2066.htm which says that the stables were provided to accommodate the horses which were used to move the wagons around the yard as well as for delivering goods around the town.

Site of Kenilworth Station
The station was situated where the builders merchant's yard is today. Directly to the left was the site of Whitemoor Brickworks and to the right, behind the photographer, is the site of the former Cherry Orchard brickworks. Both were one served by the railway and provided the material to build many houses locally. The station closed and all passenger services were withdrawn in 1965 and the line was singled in 1972. Through passenger services were re-instated in 1977 with the opening of Birmingham International Station. There have been many plans over the years to correct Dr Beeching's mistake and re-open a station at Kenilworth. One problem is that the single line is now very busy so there is limited scope for stopping trains. This may change however as the recent West Midlands Rail Usage Plan calls for the re-instatement of the double track to Leamington as well as the doubling of the stretch to Coventry that was only ever a single line.
