The station was situated where the builders merchant's yard is today. Directly to the left was the site of Whitemoor Brickworks and to the right, behind the photographer, is the site of the former Cherry Orchard brickworks. Both were one served by the railway and provided the material to build many houses locally. The station closed and all passenger services were withdrawn in 1965 and the line was singled in 1972. Through passenger services were re-instated in 1977 with the opening of Birmingham International Station. There have been many plans over the years to correct Dr Beeching's mistake and re-open a station at Kenilworth. One problem is that the single line is now very busy so there is limited scope for stopping trains. This may change however as the recent West Midlands Rail Usage Plan calls for the re-instatement of the double track to Leamington as well as the doubling of the stretch to Coventry that was only ever a single line.
