Hallmeadow Road meets Station Road CV7
Relatively new Hallmeadow Road, left, may relieve the (mostly residential) A452 Kenilworth Road through Balsall Common, but it's only half a bypass.

The three stones at the back are inscribed Health; Happiness; Harmony above an image of oak leaves and acorns. The front stone explains the memorial and adds a verse; see Image The stones appear to be chunks of slate.

Memorial to Katherine Courts, Lavender Hall Park, Balsall Common
The stone at the front is inscribed: Life's Essentials These standing stones are dedicated by Joyce and Dennis Newitt, in memory of their granddaughter Katherine Courts, who asked for more trees in the park. Each stone bears a wish for those who visit the nearby wood of her name. Three acorns, symbols of the beauty of life. Health, Happiness, Harmony With time, how sturdy oak from simple acorn grow. Woodland flourish! Fulfil this young one's wish, Each bud and leaf a symbol of life to flow. Pray these three essentials each mortal soul embrace. With the support of the Rotary Club of Meriden and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. The whole memorial is seen in Image

A rather big puddle, Lavender Hall Park, Balsall Common
Imperceptible falls must cause all the rainfall to gather here. During my visit the ground seemed rather soggy, perhaps due to the level terrain and a rather impermeable soil. The trees may have been pushed over by vandals; soft ground will have made the job easier. Putting in drainage at this stage, or even changing the levels locally, would be disruptive but could have benefits for users of this fine new park.

Looking northwest along the main path, Lavender Hall Park, Balsall Common
The level terrain, young planting and gently curving paths give this pleasant park – barely 15 years old – a spacious quality. The young Katherine's Wood is ranged across the park ahead.

Footpath to Grovefield Crescent, Lavender Hall Park, Balsall Common
The park is better-connected to the new residential estate off Hallmeadow Road than to the older part of the village behind the camera. The estate and the park followed the construction of the road in the late 1990s.
