Here the canal approaches Hawkesbury Junction from the Coventry direction; the junction itself is on the right a few yards along.

The apartment block has an enviable location overlooking Hawkesbury Junction where the Coventry and Oxford canals meet. The Sutton name derives from a 19th century family of canal toll clerks.

Built in Stoke-on-Trent in 1986. The engine is an inverted vertical compound built in 1986 by Anthony Bever at Swindon to an A A Leak design. The cylinders are 4.5" & 7" x 4" with a piston valve on the high pressure and a slide valve on the low pressure. Reverse is by Stephenson's link. The horizontal cylinder alongside is the condenser and the vertical red cylinder is the domestic hot water supply. The latter is heated by exhaust from the little engine driving the battery charging alternator. As built she had a water-tube boiler but now seems to have a vertical fire-tube boiler. The vessel is an excellent example of a practical steamboat.

The engine can be operated remotely by the steersman but feeding the boiler requires somebody in the engine room.

In the port aft corner of the engine room is this small Stuart Turner 5A inverted vertical single cylinder engine. it belt drives the battery charging alternator and its exhaust heats the vessel's domestic hot water.

Turning off the Coventry Canal into the Oxford Canal. The footbridge was under restoration at the time. It was cast at the Britannia Foundry in Derby in 1837 and is Listed Grade II.

Looking south-east, this cast iron bridge dated 1837 carries the Coventry Canal towpath across the entrance to the Oxford Canal.

The former Sephton's boatyard house and narrowboat 'Carnival', which was moored here for many years. Shortly after this photo was taken, the house became vacant, was badly vandalised and finally demolished. The building which stands on the site today is new, in the style of the old.
