Old Coventrians ground
The rugby pitches at the Old Coventrians Rugby Club. The standing water reflects the dismal weather of Christmas morning which has brightened a little at midday. The club has further pitches and a bowling green to the right. A reminder of the days when factories and firms provided sports facilities for their employees - the Co-op and Renold Chain being two firms associated with these grounds in the past. The houses in the background are late 20th century infill behind 1930s housing on Broad Lane.

Wildcroft Road in snow,1990
On the morning of Saturday 8th December 1990, a heavy localised snowfall accompanied by strong winds caused chaos on the roads in the area. This photograph was taken as the snowfall ceased. The yellow van (possibly telephone maintenance) is trying to negotiate the junction from Broad Lane into Wildcroft Road. The snow is piled to the tops of the garden walls approximately 80cm high and is weighing down tree branches and telephone wires.

Broad Lane
The box junction at Wildcroft Road, on a frosty day. The bus shelter on the left is redundant as buses ceased running down this section of Broad Lane to the common in February 2012.

A bit of blue
A small forest of trees and traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing on the Fletchamstead Highway (A45). Blue sky, possibly big enough to repair a sailor's trousers, breaking through the grey just after midday on Christmas Day.

DIY store
Sheppards now occupy the whole of the building at the corner of Wildcroft Road and Broad Lane. In the past the units to the left were occupied by a hairdresser, florist and butcher's shop.

Fletchamstead Highway
The A45 on a damp Christmas Day. As can be seen, the weather was brightening a little. Immediately ahead is the Elm Tree Avenue junction and on the right are 1930s terraced double-bayed houses lining the west side of the road to the Tile Hill Lane junction which is dominated by the red bulk of a casino, formerly a cinema.

Fletchamstead Highway
Looking south from the pedestrian crossing on the A45 and the sun is breaking through a little after a dismal rainy morning. The traffic is queueing at the junction with Tile Hill Lane, dominated by the large red casino building which was formerly a cinema. Beyond it are a variety of industrial units and car showrooms. The casino was previously blue: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1067314 (2008)

Broadmead Court, Broad Lane
The outline of the 1950s/60s block is softened by the mature trees to the fore and the varied frontage. It is set back from the road and well spaced from the surrounding houses, the net effect being that it does not dominate.
