Maypole, Welford-on-Avon
Maypole on the village green at the junction of High Street and Chapel Street. Small plaque on the pole reads: WELFORD-ON-AVON PARISH COUNCIL 65ft MAYPOLE DONATED & ERECTED 1967 REFURBISHED 2003 A notice board nearby expands on the story. At 65ft, the maypole is the tallest in England. It was originally made of wood, but replaced with aluminium after a lightning strike in June 1967. The horse chestnut tree to the right commemorates the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary, and has recently had a bench installed to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Welford-on-Avon Maypole
The maypole in Welford-on-Avon is 65 feet/20 metres is tall. It used to be wooden but was replaced by an aluminium pole after a lightning strike.
