Have you seen a hedgehog?
The rusted drawing pins and illegible graphics show that this notice, attached to a telegraph pole on St Mark's Avenue, has long since served its purpose. Concerns about hedgehog populations caused the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust to designate a hedgehog improvement area in Solihull in 2015 and another in Rugby the following year. Local people were encouraged to report hedgehog sightings (alive or dead) and steps were taken to create suitable conditions for the animals to survive. 1,235 sightings were reported in Rugby over the course of the project. St Mark's Avenue, Bilton
The area to the south-east of Bilton village is generally one of quiet leafy suburban streets including St Mark's Avenue and Hampden Way leading off to the left. St Mark's is the parish church of Bilton and, according to the Rugby Local History Research Group, the name was suggested by the developers, the Rugby Provident Permanent Benefit Building Society, see http://www.rugby-local-history.org/index.php/rugby-roads?id=118.
