Looking west ('down') from Clifton Road bridge at the grade-separated junction of the 'old line' (the main line route from Euston) and the 'loop' (the route via Northampton) east of Rugby station. The ridge-roofed redbrick building in the distance is Rugby station.

Great Central Railway viaduct at Rugby, 1960
This was an imposing structure, with this substantial main span across the multiple tracks of the West Coast Main Line. At this time the GCR route was still operating as a main line between London and Yorkshire.
