Steam driven air compressor
Second hand Belliss & Morcom. Built for Blidworth Colliery c1924 and installed at GEC, Mill Road, Rugby in 1973/4. Was used in the winter and this was its last season in use (was running when photographed). It was scrapped in 1991 and the power house site has been cleared.

Three single cylinder non-rotative condensate return pumps in a basement under the powerhouse. I wonder how often anybody looked in to ensure their health and happiness.

Powerhouse GEC Machines Ltd, Mill Road, Rugby
Spectacular power house with working steam driven reciprocating compressor and a huge gallery of DC switch gear with rotary converters. This is now demolished and the map shows clear space.
