Inscription, First World War memorial, London Road cemetery, CV1
The memorial is made of Portland Stone and is sited on the raised promenade parallel to the London Road; see Image The inscription reads: To the / honoured memory / of those sailors / and soldiers who / gave their lives / for their country / in the Great War / 1914 1918 and who / lie buried in / this cemetery First World War memorials are not often associated with burials because it was the policy of the government not to repatriate the remains of the fallen, so there may be a background story to this.
