The Grave of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, All Saints Church, Birchington
Dante Gabriel Rossetti was an English poet, illustrator, painter and scholar who died in Birchington in 1882 and whose grave can be found just to the left of the doorway of All Saints Church, Canterbury Road, Birchington. Fans of his works leave flowers by his grave, but evidently today he is not very popular!

Part of the churchyard.
The Anglican parish church of All Saints is mostly mid 14th century incorporating fragments of an earlier church on the site. The building was extensively restored in 1865. Inside is a 13th century font and an interesting 17th century pulpit. Listed, grade II*, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1094681
Birchington-on-Sea is a seaside village some 7 miles east of Herne Bay and some 3½ miles west of Margate. There is evidence of occupation from the Iron Age. As a resort, the village has a tourism based economy, with hotels, caravan parks and leisure attractions. Many retirees make the village their home.

A true classic!
Now here's a true classic! This lamp post is located on Lancaster Gardens, off Essex Gardens, in Birchington and is only just inside the bottom edge of square TR2969. The lantern is made by Metropolitan Vickers and is called an SS51, whilst I think the column is made by a now defunct Tipton-based company called Revo. I would imagine that the SS51 lantern is the original one to this column, and both date from I would say the 1950s. It has done extremely well to be surviving into 2008, as the modern steel lamp post you see in the background replaced an identical installation in 2004. View taken looking north-northwest, towards the junction with Kent Gardens.
