A mermaid "scarecrow" in The Castle Gardens, Whitstable
Part of a display in the gardens. In the 1940s the District Council created an outdoor summer dance venue at The Castle and a temporary boarded dance floor was created. Strings of lights were hung in the trees creating an impressive setting for live orchestras and entertainers. In the '50s interest waned and the area was made into the present formal Rose Garden.
