Whitstable Castle, or Tankerton Towers, as it was first called, was once a private residence for the Pearson family in the late 1790s. Today the Castle is managed by the Whitstable Castle Trust; a charitable organisation made up of local volunteers and elected Councillors. In 2009/10 the Castle and gardens were restored and revitalised with the financial help of the Heritage Lottery Fund and Canterbury City Council.
