War memorial on a roundabout
Erected in 1922, when there was not so much traffic. The memorial is at the upper end of the Road of Remembrance, renamed from Slope Road after the end of World War I. Troops in their hundreds of thousands marched down it to Folkestone Harbour, on their way to the battlefields of Europe. For more information see http://www.grand-uk.com/Step%20Short.html .

War memorial, Folkestone
The memorial stands on a roundabout at the east end of The Leas http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1837258 . It was unveiled in 1922 - for contemporary photos, see http://www.folkestonehistory.org/index.php?page=folkestone-civic-memorial . Plaques around the plinth commemorate the dead of both World Wars.
The magnificent art nouveau statue was sculpted by the artist FV Blundstone.
