Middle Street
Narrow street running north/south in the area between Beach Street and High Street. Most of these houses are grade II listed, including for example the white building on the right of the photo, no 179, and the brick faced building beyond, no 177, both dating from the early 19th century - see www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1253825 and www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1363473 respectively.

Riley Cottage, 160 Middle Street
160 Middle Street is the house whose frontage is clad in scaffolding. Planning permission has been granted by Dover District Council under application number DOV/13/00786 for the “installation of replacement windows, painting of masonry, timberwork and metalwork and installation of window boxes to front windows”.

Dolphin Street, Deal
This is the view from Beach Street looking along Dolphin Street. This is part of the Middle Street Deal Conservation Area, which in 1968 was the first Conservation Area in Kent to be designated. Its distinctive character is typified by the central axis of mainly Georgian terraced houses clustered around Middle Street and extending up to High Street or Beach Street. The press gang operated around these streets and smugglers' hiding places are still being found in local houses.
