Shop front of Rose's Fine Foods, Sandwich
Sadly Rose's Fine Foods in King Street closed recently. The Grade 2 Listed shop still has its original Edwardian shop fittings consisting of mahogany shelving and counters, white marble surfaces and tiled walls. Prior to this, Rose's Tea Warehouse and General Supply Stores had been a landmark in the town of Sandwich for three generations of the Rose family, dating back to 1870. This came to a close in 1986 when Mr Frank Rose, the last of the Rose family passed away.

Dutch and Flemish Protestants fleeing Catholic oppression by the Spanish settled in King Street and built and renovated many of the houses in their distinctive style. The green and white shop front just ahead is Grade 2 Listed and was until recently Rose's Fine Foods. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3828276 for a closer picture.
