The former Ramsgate Fire Station, Effingham Street
Converted from late 18th century housing into a fire station in the early 1900s. The oval plaque reads 'This building / was opened on the / 17th October 1905 / by / His Worship the Mayor / R. Dowling Esq JP / Chairman of the Watch Committee / E. C. Byrne Town Clerk / T. G. Taylor Borough Engineer / This tablet was presented by / H. H. Marks Esq MP JP / Fire Bell'. The fire service has now moved elsewhere and this building is used as council offices.

This is the entrance from Queen Street. The large building, in the process of being built, is a block of flats. Planning permission has been granted by Thanet District Council under application number F/TH/10/0573 for the “redevelopment of Court House site and conversion and extension of former Police Station to provide 82 one, two and three bedroom flats in a four and five storey building without compliance with condition 9 of planning permission OL/TH/04/1089”. Planning permission has been granted by Thanet District Council under application number F/TH/10/0573 for the “redevelopment of Court House site and conversion and extension of former Police Station to provide 82 one, two and three bedroom flats in a four and five storey building without compliance with condition 9 of planning permission OL/TH/04/1089”. This image shows the Image in February 2016 appearing in a worse state than it does in December 2017. The present image shows that an attempt has been made to make the building weatherproof by covering over the windows with polythene sheeting.

Former police station, Cavendish Street
There is an A&R auction board affixed to the frontage of the building bearing the website address http://www.a-r.co.uk/ This relates to Andrews & Robertson, one of the UK’s leading independent auction houses. the former police station was sold at auction on 15 February 2016 for £1,975,000. The auction may result in a redevelopment of the site. Planning permission has been granted by Thanet District Council under application number F/TH/10/0573 for the “redevelopment of Court House site and conversion and extension of former Police Station to provide 82 one, two and three bedroom flats in a four and five storey building without compliance with condition 9 of planning permission OL/TH/04/1089”. The Court House site lies behind the wire fence.
