?Princess Elizabeth? Leaves East Croydon (4)
No.6201 Stanier Pacific “Princess Elizabeth” leaves East Croydon with the Cathedrals Express, from London Victoria, to Bristol, via Redhill. A “gallery” of about 25 people, including Southern rail staff, gathered on the bridge to witness the departure. “Princess Elizabeth” previously ran through Croydon, on an excursion, in the summer of 2008; today, it was deputising for “Tangmere”, which is currently out of service. The excursion was due to leave, from platform 5, at 10.27, but departed about three minutes late.

Merchant Navy class No.35028 "Clan Line", seen approaching East Croydon, with the Venice Simplon Orient Express. This is an exclusive luncheon service, which runs from Victoria, via Guildford and Redhill, to Victoria, most months. A winter afternoon, with the cutting devoid of sunlight.
