Cotford Road, Thornton Heath
Seen from Stuart Road. The office block towering over the houses is Ambassador House, which stands on a concrete raft over the railway next to Thornton Heath station. Thornton Heath has never struck me as an office-space Mecca, which is probably why at the time of writing it has been empty and in search of a tenant for some years.

Ambassador House, Brigstock Road
1970s office block opposite Thornton Heath station. It has curious moulded blocks between the windows. This is no doubt an example of Croydon's then extensive redevelopment radiating northwards.

Destinations, phone cards and trade stickers, Brigstock Road, Thornton Heath
The travel agent here specialises in flights (and phone deals) enabling the many different nationalities living in Thornton Heath to stay in touch with their countries of origin. Most of the shopfronts along Brigstock Road's eastern end are festooned with trade stickers, frequently for firms fitting or repairing storefront shutters; presumably the reasoning is that if you come to open your shop and the shutter won't go up, you'll ring the number that's there under your nose.

Shop-signs outside Thornton Heath Station
On the south side of Brigstock Road as it climbs to the station. The Phillips sign has been there for a long time, by the look of it - certainly long after the premises below have changed function - but may not be there much longer, if the slant downwards is a guide.

Cotford Parade, Thornton Heath High Street
Opposite Thornton Heath Station, the run of rather undistinguished shops suddenly throws up this rather nice (but ignored) inter-war design.

Brigstock Road, Thornton Heath
Thornton Heath station is at the crest of the rise; beyond, on the left, is Kettering Court, flats built over a supermarket on the site of an old goods yard.
