A Valley of Two Sides
This picture shows the result of the City of London's foresight in 1883 when they preserved Farthing Downs as a common for public amenity. This side of the valley is still chalk grassland, while the other side is all covered in Coulsdon.

Territorial Army recruitment entrance in Marlpit Lane - Old Coulsdon
German prisoners of war were housed in the barracks in the 1940s on the left on Marlpit Lane (opposite the village pond). The prisoners were used to build prefabs nearby.
